As part of a collaboration with the Blue House Civic Studio, and scheduled on a Thursday afternoon within the 4S conference program, the Housing for Health Incubator led a fieldtrip to the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans’ Drinking Water Treatment Plant at Carrollton. As a group of about 25 science and technology studies scholars, anthropologists, water scientists, and New Orleans professionals, we followed Sewerage and Water Board staff through the plant, aiming to understand the treatment process from Mississippi River to domestic tap. In doing so, we considered the challenges facing the system that maintains a reliable supply of drinking water in New Orleans, ranging from the infrastructural, economic, environmental, and technological.
A package of materials distributed to fieldtrip participants is available here.
